This was one of the most difficult projects I’ve completed to date. After preparing an estimate to close off a wall AC unit, the homeowner decided to add a window. Since the home was in the historic district, I had a feeling the walls weren’t sheetrock. I was right. So the job became a plaster wall window installation.
Plaster walls are a lot more difficult to repair. Drywall can be precisely cut. Plaster is a much bigger process. So, I wanted to make sure I kept as much of the wall intact as I could. What a mess!
Changing the Gameplan a Bit.
Once I started cutting out the window, I quickly realized the plaster had to go. There was just no way for me to transition the plaster smoothly. I was able to keep most of the backing in tact, despite the unusual framing around the AC unit.
I added a few studs to secure the window before handing a few sheets of drywall. I did my best to match the rest of the moulding in the house.
Drywall Finish and Paint.
I was super relieved when all of the drywall work was done. I really hate how big of a mess this stuff makes in someone’s home. Almost as much as I hate painting. But I got everything taped off primed.
The burnt orange was a unique choice. It changed the atmosphere of the room entirely. I’m pleased with the way this plaster wall window installation turned out!
If you live in the Memphis area and are in need of some plaster work, let me know! It can be difficult to find reliable labor these days and I’m eager to deliver quality work. Planning ahead and knowing the material needed makes a big difference!
