Sometimes, the smallest of changes can make the biggest difference in a home environment. This was the case when Lawrence called me about his new home in Arlington TN. He wasn’t very happy with the bare bone aura of the house. So, we worked on a few customizations that’d bring the abode to life. The first was creating a wooden ceiling accent for the master suite.
Not Everyone Has a Design Eye.
When I first started talking to the client, he had a lot of ideas. We originally weren’t even going to do a wooden ceiling accent. I had to do a lot of fact finding as he closed on the house. The guy really wasn’t sure what he wanted. I struggled to read him. But you can only do so much over the phone.
After spending some time with him, and checking out at his decor, I started to get a better feel for his personality. Doing something bold wasn’t out of the question. Wainscoting probably wasn’t going to be enough. He was looking for something original.
Narrowing Down Accent Ideas.

Any type of color would have done. But I love wood grain over wooden floors.
Making the Master Bedroom Pop.
When you think about most homes these days, the black and white shiplap theme is everywhere. With full autonomy, I didn’t want to mimic trends on this wooden ceiling accent design. He wasn’t really a status quo guy. Most of the home decor was gnarly wooden carvings. The furniture was beautiful.
The home was legitimately giving off African tribal vibes with a little modern day soul. I loved it. So I decided on a thin, clean professional wood grain look. I was so confident that I bought the material and started staining it as I finished another job
Designing a Wooden Ceiling Accent.
Far too many new homes in bluff city lack flavor. The older houses always have something cool. So, it’s always good to help a homeowner construct something unique. It gives them a sense of pride and confidence.
Flat white walls can be bland and boring. Similar to wood grain in a car, the man needed a luxury feel on his ceiling.
Thin Luxury Style Wooden Ceiling Accent.
Installing 1 1/4″ wooden slats, stained to match the floor, made the room feel a lot more elegant. The wooden slats kind of gave the room a yacht-like-feel. The accent looks a lot better than the grey ceiling square. It’ll be a lot nicer to wake up to.
The way a bedroom makes you feel can shift your daily perspective. A unique style reminds you of your worth. This wooden ceiling accent was tough to install from a ladder. However, it turned out great.
Finishing carpentry like this gives me a bit more confidence as well.
