Thicker wood can be spaced further as decking boards and posts can be as big as 8×8″. Honestly, you can use any style lumber to construct a deck. Just count on me giving you feedback on location and lifespan.

For starters, you’re going to want to invest in annual cleaning and periodic sealing or staining (every few years). To clean, you can use scrub brush or a power washer. Since this can remove some of the protectant or paint, re-applying your finish is pivotal. If the deck needs a repair, don’t put it off.
